Every app needs an app icon and a launch image. In addition, some apps need custom icons to represent app-specific content, functions, or modes in navigation bars, toolbars, and tab bars. The standard bit depth for icons and images is 24 bits—that is, 8 bits each for red, green, and blue—plus an 8-bit alpha channel. - apple: Icon and Image Sizes
This freebie is an App Icon Template that, through Smart Objects in Photoshop, attempts to automate the process of rendering the expanding amount of sizes that needs to be bundled with iOS Apps. Edit the 1024x1024 Smart Object named 'Edit me & save'. This opens the Icon.psb file - create your artwork in this canvas. After saving the Icon.psb, the multiple sizes in the Main PSD file should automatically be rendered. Use the Photoshop Actions (App Icon Template version 4.0) that came in the same folder as the main psd to export your icon files. - App Icon Template
