User Interface Design is the multi-disciplinary practice of crafting usable human-device interfaces. Taking into account, among many things: user and organizational tasks, needs, and goals; ease and simplicity of use; clarity and beauty of execution; flexibility and scalability of the design across multiple devices. — Michael Connors, User Experience Strategist at Fresh Tilled Soil
UX/UI…not just development buzz words… These terms are much more than just tech development buzz words… they stand for the essence of great design: inspired form, thoughtful function, clarity, and intuitive usability. - User Interface Design
The best interface is none at all, when we are able to directly manipulate the physical objects in our world. Since this is not always possible, and objects are increasingly informational, we create interfaces to help us interact with them. It is easy to add more layers than necessary to an interface, creating overly-wrought buttons, chrome, graphics, options, preferences, windows, attachments, and other cruft so that we end up manipulating UI elements instead of what's important. Instead, strive for that original goal of direct manipulation…design an interface with as little a footprint as possible, recognizing as much as possible natural human gestures. Ideally, the interface is so slight that the user has a feeling of direct manipulation with the object of their focus. - Principles of User Interface Design
Once you know about your user, make sure to consider the following when designing your interface: - User Interface Design Basics
- Keep the interface simple;
- Be purposeful in page layout;
- Strategically use color and texture;
- Make sure that the system communicates what’s happening;
- Think about the defaults;
Sketch is becoming a great tool for UI designers and a valid competitor to Adobe products for what concerns user interface design. This is why we decided to put together a UI kit for Sketch users. - Flat UI Kit for Sketch
The set included standard elements like navigation bar, tooltips, buttons slides etc. It’s a good starting point for your next project!
Besides the kit is super easy to customize due to Sketch “Link” feature, that allows you to change “linked” elements style with one action only.
